Each year the Greater Long Island Running Club offers a scholarship of $2,000 to be awarded to one or more seniors graduating from a public Nassau County or Suffolk County high school, in memory of long-time Club member Herb Grayson. Recipients are chosen on the basis of involvement in and service to the Long Island running community.
Last year's scholarship was awarded to Bay Shore High School senior Emma Mangels, who was a Suffolk County Academic All-County runner.
Outside of school, she drew upon her passion for running to help raise awareness for Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare skin disease that her cousin suffers from. Mangels organized a 5K run, which netted $5,600 that she donated to EB Research Partnership.
The Greater Long Island Running Club is pleased to announce that the 2018 Herb Grayson Memorial Scholarship Application is now open, and can be downloaded below. Applications must be received on or before April 3, 2018.
