Before I started getting into running, I was a slob.
Literally a slob, my regular morning routine would be to swing by a local Starbucks branch to get coffee and some sweets and then eat the said sweets while working in front of the computer. My so-called power lunch was, well, UNpowerful. It had mashed potatoes, steak or roasted chicken or even a quarter pounder (or maybe two). Dinner with my family was a feast. We'd have chicken, steak or potroast and for dessert the kids and I enjoy our pistachio ice cream.
I never really did care about my health. I didn't even know I was really overweight because I never did have any of those unsightly abs. And then there came a time when my heart started to act up. I suffered from a mild stroke. The doctors told me that I had to cut down on those high protein and fatty foods and start eating right and start eating healthy. They also suggested that I should start alotting time for exercise.
When I checked out of the hospital, I started reading up on research paper and I found out in a particular paper that the best way to lose weight, strengthen the heart and get a good exercise is through marathon running or simply through running.
And so I started running, first in a treadmill followed later by the real thing. To help me recover better, we moved from our urban household to somewhere in suburbia. It was there that I met other like minded individuals who wanted to stay fit and healthy and integrated running in their daily lives.
Later, these same people urged me to compete in the local 5k run which I won. I won it with my health and my friends in mind.
