Footnotes Digital Magazine Editor
Email cover letter and resume to Suzanne@glirc.org
We're looking for someone to write, arrange, and assemble the Organization's monthly publication, Long Island Footnotes. This publication has historically been a full-color printed magazine, and recently has gone digital-only. The possibility of returning to a print version in the future is not ruled out.
The Footnotes Editor will work closely with different members of the organization under the guidance of the General Manager to produce content each month. The right candidate will have 2+ years of experience in print and/or digital publications, a sharp eye for detail, and very strong writing, editing, and revisionary skills. Experience in the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite are a must - Word, Publisher, Excel, and Illustrator in particular. Experience with graphics software such as Canva is a plus.
Editing responsibilities include proofreading and formatting text to meet publication standards and meet accessibility best practices according to the ADA. You must have the ability to work independently, have a strong sense of organization, can work with many moving parts, and be excellent at time management since you will be working with strict deadlines.
The ideal candidate will have a welcoming attitude toward feedback and constructive criticism, and the skills to revise content based upon that feedback. You will also have collaborative skills, enthusiasm, and positive energy to contribute to a team. A passion for nonprofit work and/or running a plus.
Responsibilities:
Proofread and edit written work for content, clarity, and grammar.
Edit photos and create graphic content.
Ensure that the magazine is well-produced with an appropriate tone and flow of information.
Review and edit articles, stories and ideas submitted by freelance writers.
See the entire publication from start to finish each month.
Other duties as assigned.
